Plus goodies and merchandise available.

It was sad but expected news when Gen Con announced last week that it would be unable to go ahead, given concerns around COVID-19. It promised both a convention for next year, but also word of an intended online convention, aptly named Gen Con Online. It said more details would follow, and as such they did this morning.

The convention, has been described as a new virtual convention experience, “featuring four days of remote gaming, streaming shows, your favourite exhibitors, and more — all from the safety of your devices and the comfort of your favourite quarantine sweatpants!”. It’ll run from July 30th 2020 to August 2nd 2020.

You’ll be able to register for a badge from June 1st 2020 at noon EDT. Though the badges are free, you’ll need them to participate in certain events, so be sure to sign up in time. Even more information will be issued on Monday as to how to do this specifically, with details still being confirmed. You can still sign up for more information so that it does so.

There’s also event submission on June 8th, and event registration on July 13th.

Platforms used will vary, so be prepared to register with different ones depending on the events you wish to attend. These will include Tabletopia, Tabletop Playground, Board Game Arena, Tabletop Simulator, Discord, and zoom.

Not only that, but what event would be complete without merchandise? Gen Con Online has shown off some of its available merchandise, which includes everything from badges to jackets to messenger bags to backpacks – and everything in between.

There’s no news yet as to who to expect or how the exhibitions will run, but there’s still time for those details to come through, and we’ll watch out for more.
