Gioco dell'Anno, the annual Italian Game of the Year award for tabletop titles, has selected its final handful of finalists.

7 Wonders Duel, Celestia, New York 1901, Codenames and Potion Explosion were selected from 33 nominees in total by a judging panel made up of critics, designers and more from the industry.

The winner of the award will be revealed in October, with a ceremony set to take place in the Lucca Comics and Games store.

Gioco dell'Anno was first handed out in 2013, the result of combining Lucca’s Best of Show prize – which ran for almost two decades from 1993 until 2012 – and another Game of the Year award founded in the nineties.

Finalists for a separate Gioco dell'Anno accolade for this year's Roleplaying Game of the Year (Gioco dell'Anno Dell’Anno) were previously announced, including Mouse Guard, Dawn of Cthulhu and Lone Wolf.
