A whole host of announcements have been made from Ravensburger on the roadmap for Disney Lorcana, and we've got a summary of the things you need to know about this popular trading card game.

Written by Charlie Pettit

Disney Lorcana burst onto the scene some 18 months ago, bringing us fantastic trading card gameplay, with some of our favourite Disney characters. Now in even more territories – launching later this year in Brazil amongst other places – it's creating a whole new world (pun intended) with brand new and beautiful art, it's no surprise they're innovating to keep the game feeling fresh. We've summarised the announcements:

Contents

Disney Lorcana Reign of Jafar

The next set releasing in Disney Lorcana is Reign of Jafar – where Jafar has successfully reforged the crown that gave Ursula’s Crown the power, he has taken over Archazia’s Island, and it is now his palace, domain, and realm. We can expect dune, rocks, and illusions, with artwork inspired by Sand from the hourglass.

Excitingly though, the release will include another Ilumineers Quest, with a Palace Heist. We first saw these with Ursula, where you worked together to defeat her, giving a new way to play that was cooperative rather than competitive. In it, instead of trying to defeat a 'big bad', you’re trying to sneak into Jafar's palace to steal and destroy the crown rather than fighting Jafar directly.

There's some fantastic new inclusions in the set itself – Bambi will be coming into the game, and a range of promotional cards confirmed.

Fabled

Fabled celebrates the 2nd anniversary of Disney Lorcana, and seems to be where most of the changes can be found. Not only are we celebrating by bringing The Goofy Movie to Disney Lorcana as it turns 30, but we've got new rarities, set locations, sets, and reprints.

Rarity Changes in Disney Lorcana

Previously, we've seen Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Legendary, and the most highly sought after: the Enchanted. Acknowledging the collector role in the industry, they've added two new rarities.

Epic

Epic rarity cards are more rare than Legendary, but easier to find than Enchanted cards, and are alternate versions of existing cards, with a few changes. Namely, there'll be a special rainbow foil treatment, holofoil treatment on the icons, gloss treatment on the art, and an open air card frame.

Iconic

Iconic cards in Disney Lorcana are the new rarest cards, being even harder to find than Enchanted. However, they won't offer independent cards in their own right – and by that we mean that they are alternate versions of existing cards, with alternate art, custom lore, and 3D hot stamp effects. If you're a player, it means you can still get the card you need from the regular set, but if you're a collector, you'll want to track down those iconic cards.

Reprints & Rotations

As the pool of available cards gets bigger, Disney Lorcana is attempting to keep it manageable for newcomers by allowing only certain sets in competition rotation at any one time. This is very common for Trading Card Games, and not unexpected. Once set 9 is released, the first four sets will not be able to be used in core constructed competitions – which means First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, and Ursula's Return will not be in competitive play.

As a result, Fabled will contain reprints of cards, which mean the cards stay in legal play. More than half of the set will constitute reprints – though this will not include Enchanted versions.

New Collectors Starter Set

There'll now be a collection starter set, in consideration of those who want to obtain cards without playing (though players will equally be able to gain cards from this set). It will contain a four-pocket binder portfolio, 4 booster packs, a promo card – being Tinkerbell - Giant Fairy – and a collectors guide.

Whispers of the Well

The last set of the year has also been confirmed – coming Q4 of 2025, Whispers of the Well is its name. It will feature a new kind of glimmer, etherial, where there is a mystery to where they came from. Don't forget to take a look more closely at this image for some hidden details...

Plus – Darkwing Duck will make his appearance!

Playing Disney Lorcana

Infinity Constructed

We're seeing a new way to play Disney Lorcana. In this, you can create a format you can compete in, but using all the cards you’ve collected and purchased, regardless of whether you’re a new or legacy player.

Sets will never rotate out – you can utilise the whole collection!

World Championships

We saw much of the details leaked online before the event, but in case you missed with, World Championships are taking place at Walt Disney World Resort on June 28th and 29th. Ravensburger explained they're focussing on the event being a premium VIP event for the 28 players and their plus ones, but were surprised by the level of engagement and enthusiasm from the wider community – so we can hope this might change to a bigger event in future!

The Ravensburger Play Hub

Ravensburger have announced the Ravensburger Play Hub, where stores can sign up and you'll later be able to find other players.
