Dice allocation and threat management at core of game based on first season of acclaimed cartoon

The Batman: The Animated Series game teased at the end of last month by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past studio IDW has had a slew of new details revealed, with some very exciting titbits.

The first we saw of Batman: The Animated Series – Gotham Under Siege showcased the game’s miniatures based on the acclaimed ‘90s cartoon. It now turns out that the gameplay will revolve around allocating dice and managing threats to fight off henchmen and bosses using the team of both super- and regular heroes.

The game will apparently be based on the first season of the cartoon and include “the full range of Batman’s Rogues Gallery” – although the only villain we’ve seen confirmed to make an appearance so far is The Joker. Matches will play out in around 45 minutes to an hour.

As well as models of the goodies and baddies, the box will come with 3D buildings to bring the city one to five players will be protecting to life, with brand new artwork – albeit based on the characters’ TV personas – by TableTaffy and Leonardo Ito.

Behind the design is Arkham Horror and Elder Sign creator Richard Launius, joined by co-designer Michael Guigliano.

What’s particularly interesting is that IDW says that Gotham Under Siege will just the first instalment in a planned series of tabletop games based on Batman: The Animated Series.

“Subsequent releases in the series will capture and celebrate the Batman Animated universe, packed with heroes and villains, featuring them in settings new and still familiar to fans and gamers,” IDW added in its announcement.

Batman: The Animated Series – Gotham Under Siege is due for release this August.
