Prototype shows trains running above players’ animal parks

Bärenpark is a wonderful tile-layer about building the ideal habitat for bears of all shapes and sizes. It’s such a warm, welcoming bear hug of a game that it’s hard to imagine how it could be improved too mu… wait, are those monorails?

Yes, designer Phil Walker-Harding – he of the also excellent Sushi Go! – has taken to Twitter to tease a possible expansion to Bärenpark that would potentially add monorails to the game.

Before you get your hopes up too much, be aware that Walker-Harding himself made it very clear that the idea is very much a prototype at the moment, so there’s no promise that the concept will ever make it into the hands of us non-designer types.

Still, the image posted by Walker-Harding is exciting, showing a series of connected monorail trains suspended above the player’s park (resting on what appear to be blocks from another of his games, Imhotep – again, just a prototype!).

Each train appears to have a point value and a direction, although it’s not clear how they might be scored – something that would likely be tweaked and fine-tuned before a final release anyway.

Perhaps best of all, Walker-Harding posted the picture with a fitting reference to the classic Simpsons episode Marge vs. the Monorail, saying: “I've sold monorails to Brockway, Ogdenville and North Haverbrook!”

As we wait patiently to hear if, by gum, Bärenpark will be put on the map, why not revisit a sure-fire '90s earworm? Together now: monorail! Monorail! Monorail!
