A new Dead of Winter game is being teased using mysterious packages and a fake website

It seems the Dead of Winter universe is about to get a little bit bigger.

An unannounced new game linked to Jonathan Gilmour and Isaac Vega’s zombie survival hit has begun to pop up on Twitter and Facebook, with a number of people linked to the franchise posting images of a ‘Raxxon survival kit’.

Among them is Dead of Winter illustrator Peter Wocken, whose image clearly shows a black box that describes “A game by J. Arthur Ellis” and features the words “Set in the world of Dead of Winter” prominently.

J. Arthus Ellis manages the playtesting for Dead of Winter publisher Plaid Hat Games, as well as serving on a producer on games including the original Dead of Winter and its expansion Warring Colonies and the Specter Ops spin-off Crossfire. Curiously, Specter Ops also features a fiction company called Raxxon, though there’s no indication the new game will be linked to the spy series.

The boxes are accompanied by a letter from the fictional Raxxon Pharmaceuticals company, saying “Raxxon invites you to partner with us and save the human race”.

A website for Raxxon has also appeared, teasing team members and making reference to a zombie outbreak. A link at the bottom of the site links to a fake command line interface, which requests a password and displays Bloody Munchies, the cereal from the Dead of Winter when left to idle. The password bloodymunchies then accesses a directory of files, none of which appear to grant more details on the mysterious new game. There's further easter eggs if you dig into the files or leave the unlocked command line to idle again – we'll leave you to explore for yourself.

With next month’s Gen Con just around the corner, expect to hear more about the new Dead of Winter game – whatever it turns out to be – sooner rather than later.
