Think you’re good at Othello? Think again.

An 11-year-old expert at the abstract strategy game (also known as Reversi) has secured a place at next month’s Junior Othello World Championships after winning a nationwide competition.

Alexandra Bryant will be mentored by members of the British Othello Federation before she jets off to Japan for the global tournament.

Bryant was selected as the champion of an online puzzle competition held by toy firm John Adams, which challenged entrants to select their next move on an Othello board and explain why they would take the action.

“Alexandra was the clear winner,” explained the British Othello Federation’s Guy Ploughman.

“Alexandra had obviously read the strategy sheet and had also applied what she had read really well to the position, and therefore demonstrated that she has true potential for being a strong Othello competitor.”

"I'm really excited about the trip to Japan,” Bryant added.

“I can't believe I've won; Othello is my all-time favourite board game so to win the chance to play in the Junior Othello World Championships is amazing – I can't wait.”
