Take Cat Family Card Game

03 July 2026

Take Cat offers catnapping in the harshest sense

We not afraid to admit it, we love a good pun. Whether you’re willing to lean into that pun is, believe it or not, going to impact how much fun you have playing this game.

Essentially, you’re drawing cards from a central deck (or the discard pile once there is one), until you collect two halves of the same cat. Once you do, you place the cat in front of you – first to five completed cats wins. Of course, it’s not that simple. Each of the cat pieces has a number on it and if someone draws a cat piece with a higher number than the one on your completed cat, they can steal it. And when they do, they’ll shout, “Take cat!”

For such an incredibly easy-to-grasp concept, Take Cat is actually quite fun – with a few provisos. First, although the box lists two to six players, it really should say three to six players, as two is a lot less interesting. Three or more cat constructors, though, hits the spot.

Second, it’ll depend who you play this with on the reaction you get. Having ultra-competitive adult players shout, “Take cat!” as they announce their dickery gives the game a more in-your-face feel, while the 6+ age bracket sees kids voicing their catnapping in a much more playful way. Both work for this game, which won’t fill your evening but is a solid palette cleanser between bigger plays.
