Introduces campaign mode

One of the best roleplaying stories of all time is headed to Lovecraftian board game Eldritch Horror.

Masks of Nyarlathotep made its debut in the first edition of Call of Cthulhu more than two decades ago, and went on to become not just a milestone for Lovecraftian tales on the tabletop but roleplaying as a whole thanks to its intense epic campaign that sees players hunting cultists around the world during a series of six connected adventures set in countries including China, Egypt, Australia, Kenya, the US and England.

Call of Cthulhu studio Chaosium announced this summer it would be bringing the scenario back in an expanded form for the seventh edition of the horror RPG, adding an extra chapter, additional encounters and support for spin-off Pulp Cthulhu.

It seems that Masks of Nyarlathotep will also find its way into Fantasy Flight’s Lovecraftian masterpiece Eldritch Horror, with the original adventure’s interconnected story inspiring a new campaign mode in the upcoming expansion.

The campaign will consist of multiple games, with the consequences and rewards of each separate chapter carrying across to future attempts to save the world. Players will ultimately need to win multiple times to triumph overall.

Masks of Nyarlathotep will also feature additional artifacts, assets and spells for the board game, plus personal stories for the investigators that present extra character development and unique items.

Both the Masks of Nyarlathotep re-release for Call of Cthulhu and the upcoming Eldritch Horror expansion are due out in the first quarter of 2018.
